A pioneer of the energy performance contracting business model, George Sakellaris founded the company to provide independent energy services that combine upgrades to facility energy infrastructure with tailored financing solutions. An early diversification strategy was to build, own, and operate renewable energy plants. The firm grew rapidly through acquisitions that expanded its geographic scope and the range of services it offers. It has been providing energy procurement and risk management services since 2002. Thus, Ameresco works with customers on both sides of the meter to cut operating expenses, upgrade and maintain facilities, stabilize energy costs, improve occupancy comfort levels, increase energy reliability and enhance the environment.
Ameresco is a leader in the evolution of the energy information industry. Its Enterprise Energy Management (EEM) platform combines a suite of services with its core energy efficiency offerings that includes utility bill management and real-time energy usage reporting and analysis at both the facility level and the equipment level. Unlike many in the energy information space, Ameresco is not interested in selling software, rather uses its technology platforms to leverage the expertise of its energy engineers and commodity experts.
The flagship offering of Ameresco’s EEM platform is xChangePoint, which monitors and reports on energy usage at the one minute interval for the equipment that consumes the bulk of the energy in a facility.
Energy Efficiency isn’t a new concept but with greater acceptance, it could have significant global impact
With xChangePoint, customers get more than energy information; they also get the services of Ameresco’s Energy Analysts, who analyze the data and apply industry best practices to identify and implement opportunities to save energy through both operational and capital improvements.
A recent case in point is the work it has done with Children’s Hospital Boston (CHB), a longtime performance contracting customer of Ameresco who recently implemented xChangePoint. Under a performance contract CHB implemented various lighting improvements, thermal and water savings initiatives, and energy efficient motors and drives throughout their facilities, saving them 5.5 million kWh, 12 million gallons of water, and 17,000 MMBTUs annually, or approximately $950,000 per year. While that is a great success story, CHB wanted to see if more could be achieved.
so they implemented xChangePoint to analyze their real time usage patterns. Within 6 months Ameresco had identified over $400,000 per year in additional savings opportunities which are now being implemented.
As it has since its founding, Ameresco continues to offer unbiased energy services to customers in all sectors. Now it is able to identify even more savings for its customers through the use of energy information offerings that leverage the expertise of its energy engineers and commodity experts. The company’s innovative solutions are based on best practices and incorporate the measures best suited to attain the customer’s energy efficiency, sustainability, and budget goals.
